September Birthstone

The traditional September Birthstone is Sapphire.

Most people associate sapphires with blue. The  best example of this is probably the classic Ceylon Blue Sapphire which is a cornflower blue colour. They also are found in clear, yellow, violet and black.

Mythology of Sapphire

Sapphire takes its name from the Sanskrit word Sani, which means Saturn. As a result of this, it was considered to be the stone of Saturn. It was said to represent the heavens, the sphere of the angels, magic, fidelity and finally friendship.
